Abqaiq Drill Yard in Dammam

The project area is located inside the borders of the Eastern Governate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia near the cities of Dammam and Al Khobar in the Dhahran area. The project area is located between the Gulf Cooperation Council Road to the west and King Khalid Road to the east and spans over 3.79 Km² of arid to semi-arid land.

The area and the city of Dhahran is home to several facilities relative to Aramco and are critical for the local and national economy. The city has great economic and historic importance to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and has been chosen to accommodate a newly proposed drill site.

This project included a full flood mitigation study, as well as the proposal and design of any engineering solutions. The flood mitigation study started with a full hydrological assessment and analysis of existing and post-development scenarios, then a full hydraulic assessment and analysis was done. After the completion of the hydrological and hydraulic assessments, a flood risk assessment was completed before the design of an internal drainage system of the project area to mitigate the effect of any local flooding.
