Ardah Development Project

The Arda project area consists of 1 km² of undeveloped land and is located near the south-east border of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The site is located at the eastern edge of the Rub’ Al Khali (The Empty Quarter) desert near the borderline between KSA and the Sultanate of Oman. As a result of the soil nature at the site location, the project area is surrounded by sand dunes and barren lands. The site operation and its protection against possible flood risks is critical to the Ministry’s operations in the area.

This project included a full flood mitigation study, as well as the proposal and design of any engineering solutions. The flood mitigation study started with a full hydrological assessment and analysis of existing and post-development scenarios, then a full hydraulic assessment and analysis was done. After the completion of the hydrological and hydraulic assessments a flood risk assessment was completed before the design of an internal drainage system of the project area to mitigate the effect of any local flooding.
